Entering Atlantic Time Zone! Since I'm too lazy to change the clock on my camera when I cross time zones, this means that my photo timestamps will now be three hours earlier than local time. I've now been to all six North American time zones - Alaskan, Pacific, Mountain, Central, Eastern, and Atlantic. |
Nova Scotia had a very pretty welcome center, complete with a pretty girl playing bagpipes. |
This is the most awesome welcome center I have ever visited. They have coffee, ice cream, and comfy chairs around a fireplace. If only they had free wireless internet, I could just set up shop in here and go nuts. |

The countryside near the welcome center. The freeway I'm traveling on is in the background to the right. |

There are some cool-looking buildings on the Halifax waterfront. |

They seem to really love ice cream in eastern Canada. I think it's a good sign when an ice cream shop has a cow out front. |

I camped out that night at a campground on the coast. The bad thing about Nova Scotia is the never-ending swarms of mosquitoes. Actually, I seem to have problems with mosquitoes at all sorts of places in Canada. |
I have scientifically determined that citronella candles don't help repel mosquitoes at all. With my luck, they probably attract mosquitoes. |

Only loonies are allowed to use the campground showers. Fortunately, it seemed to work for me. |
On the road again. |

The really long Confederation Bridge to the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island (PEI). |
"In New Brunswick, there is always a city nearby!" Hooray! |
More shots of the Confederation Bridge. I thought about driving down the bridge so I could see PEI, but the toll was about $34 USD. The bridge cost $1 billion (CDN) to build, so I can see why they'd want to charge hefty tolls. If I had realized at the time that the toll was round-trip, I probably would have taken it. Additionally, I've since discovered that there is a free shuttle service for pedestrians and cyclists. |

Some rough nighttime shots of Fredericton, New Brunswick. |

Notice the giant ice cream cones in this coffee shop's storefront. |
It looks like during the summer, many restaurants in downtown Fredericton set up outdoor seating that occupies the entire sidewalk. Pedestrian travel is accomodated by setting up a temporary wooden walk-around in the parking lane. I thought this was a pretty clever way of trading off parking for outdoor seating during the warmer summer months when outdoor seating is probably valued higher than a close parking spot. |

And of course, our favorite Denver-based sandwich chain has even reached this remote area. |
