London Trip: Edinburgh, Scotland

Thursday, July 22, 1999

I took a day trip on a high speed train to Edinburgh, Scotland. The trip took about four hours each way. Edinburgh is probably the most beautiful city that I have ever seen. While in Edinburgh, I bravely consumed a plate of haggis, the traditional Scottish meal reknowned worldwide for its repulsiveness, in a new town pub.

As usual -- click on the provided image to get a bigger and better image.

This is the view of Edinburgh after emerging from the train station.

A typical street in new town Edinburgh.

A huge, lush park rests in the valley under Edinburgh Castle and the old town. The park was once a lake that seperated the old town from the new town, but it was drained a long time ago.

Another picture of the park.

A very dark picture of the castle, taken from the park.

Edinburgh Castle, overlooking the park. The park was bustling with families and kids running around having fun.

A fountain in the park.

An amphitheater in the park, with the old town in the background.

This is the former royal yacht, permanently stationed here by the queen. This picture was taken while on the tour bus.

The royal yacht again.

An even better picture of the royal yacht.

Yet another picture of the same thing... I was anxious to reload my camera.

This picture and the following two are from the inside of Edinburgh Castle. Unfortunately, most of the really interesting things (like the crown jewels) were in "no photograph" areas. I imagine this is because camera flash is known to cause harm to antiques.

Hmm... I'm not sure what this is supposed to be.
