I bought the camera at the Wal-Mart in Spartanburg, SC, after staying over at the Motel 6 there.
Near Spartanburg is a small town called "Cowpens" that was supposedly
the site of an important battle in the Revolutionary War. I couldn't
believe that someone named a town "Cowpens" so I had to take a picture.
I never have quite figured out exactly where the film starts on these
35mm cameras, so I took another picture to make sure the roll of film
was primed properly.
This is from the parking lot of the rest area just into North Carolina.
Honestly, this seemed like a scenic view at the time. (I take great
pictures, don't I?)
The city of Charlotte, North Carolina! I was amazed to find out
later how big of a city Charlotte really is. The downtown area
was complete dead at around 11:00AM on a weekday when I was
driving through -- no traffic at all.
Here is the inside of an internetted coffee house in
Chapel Hill, North Carolina where I stopped to check my email.
Here's the attendant on duty who happily took my money in
exchange for cappuccino and email.
A picture of downtown Chapel Hill, North Carolina. This was an
amazingly fascinating city; every nook and cranny of the downtown
area was filled with a coffee house or book store, and stuff was
going on everywhere.
I bought this postcard in Chapel Hill, NC, and mailed it to myself.
The obligatory picture of downtown Raleigh, NC.
A view of the George Washington Masonic National Memorial in
Alexandria, Virginia, just across the river from Washington, D.C.
A closer view.
A dark inside view of the statue of George Washington.
Standing in the Mall in Washington, D.C., I took this picture
of the Washington Monument.
Here is a picture of the Capitol building, across from the
wading pool.
I took this picture and the next picture standing on the steps
of the Capitol Building. They don't call it Capitol Hill for
nothing -- there is quite a view from up here.
Of course, the White House. What you can't see from the picture is
that extremely heavy winds are blowing the water from the lawn
sprinkler system, and all the tourists are getting rained on trying
to take a good picture.
Another picture of the White House.
A far-off picture of the White House. The weird thing is that people
play soccer and have picnics in the park right in front of the
White House.
I unfortunately forgot to take any more pictures of my travels through Maryland, Deleware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York City. I just got too excited!
Here are some scenic pictures of the Roanoke Valley I took from the
Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia on the way back home.
Interstate 40 through the Appalachian Mountains between Tennessee and
North Carolina is really cool. I hear it's been blocked off lately
due to a major landslide; it's too bad.
Don't try this at home, kids! Always keep your eyes on the road!
Don't be fooling with cameras while driving over the speed limit
through mountainous passes!
Yet another shot from the car.
This picture and the next one were taken at the Tennessee welcome
center near the state line.
The last three pictures were taken to waste film when I arrived
home, so I thought I'd photograph the Davemobile after its
long journey!
